How This Website Came To Be

Sherry Clark

This web site was created in the hope of uniting our Mongelluzzo and Natale familes. I started my research in 2002 as a way to occupy my time as my children were growing and headed on their own paths in life. What started out as a hobby has grown into an “obsession”, in some ways. I have been so blessed in this process by the people I have met through this journey of learning about our past, both family and friends. It has been a labor of love and it is my pleasure to share this with all of you. Thanks to my brother Dave for putting this web site together. It would never have happened without him, I love you Dave. I started with some family information that was given to me by my Aunt Liz and Aunt Felice. I am only sorry that we lost Liz in the year 2003, and she was not able to see how this has grown. What a blessing she is having meeting our ancestors face to face that we only see as names on a piece of paper – or a web site in this case!

My mom, Carmela Mongelluzzo York, was also able to share with me some memories of her family. It has been a joy to see her excitement and amazement as the branches of our family tree have grown. Through another dear family member, Henry Iuliano, I was able to gather even more information, photos and made several more family contacts. My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Henry and his wife Kitty a few years ago and were truly blessed. You have to love the internet and how it brings people right to you, in a way.

My primary research has been with the microfilm records of Nusco that are available through the Latter Day Saints family history library. Marriage, birth and death records have all been microfilmed from 1809-1910. I cannot tell you what a thrill as I went through and found family records. Imagine looking at the birth record of your great great grandfather Gabriele Mongelluzzo from 1836, or the death record of your great great great great great grandfather Amato Mongelluzzo from 1814. It was like a treasure hunt! Over the last 4 years, I have made a database of all of the Nusco civil records and have this available for anyone who would like to research their own family.

Another family member I never knew I had, Antonio Mongelluzzo who lives inMilan, sent me a photo of my great grandfather, Michele Mongelluzzo. It was a delight to show my mom a picture of her grandfather whom she has never seen before. Among other photos, he also sent one of my mother as a young girl with her parents and siblings. She did not even remember this picture being taken, and to think it came fromItaly for her to see it from the first time, how fun is that!! Thank you, Antonio for looking through your family archives.

With the help of a friend, I made contact with a gentleman, Gennaro Passaro, who still lives in Nusco. He is the one who brought our family line back to the 1600’s. I know you do not know English very well, Gennaro, but if someone ever reads this to you, please know that I cannot thank you enough for this gift you have given me.

All this to say that this has been a wonderful “treasure hunt” for me, and the jewels have been the wonderful people I have met along the way. My hearts desire is to visit Nusco some day and walk along the paths that my ancestors trod. I guess I will have to see what God holds for the future.
